Banks’ operating profit goes up by 58pc

The operating profit of the private commercial banks increased by nearly 60 per cent in the last six months compared to the profit made during the previous six month period, official sources said.
The 2010 half yearly report of the banks show that profits of different banks increased by 33 to 60 per cent compared to their respective profits earned in the last six month of 2009, said bank officials concerned.
Besides, profit of the state-owned commercial banks during January to June 2010 doubled compared to the profits made in July-December 2009 period.
Dhaka Bank’s managing director Khandokar Fazle Rahsid said the country’s economic situation was improving everyday as the SME sector was doing well.
He also said that the rate of default loan of the commercial banks showed declining trends resulting in increase of the six month’s operating profits of the commercial bank.
In the last six months the Social Islami Bank Limited came with Tk 105 crore profit compared to only Tk 70 crore during the last six months of 2009. Prime Bank earned Tk 335 crore during the last six months while it made a profit of Tk 255 crore during July-December 2009, according to the records.
The Dhaka Bank’s profit in the last six months stood at Tk 182 crore while its profit in the previous six months was Tk 132 crore.
Pubali Bank’s profit was Tk 285 crore against Tk 180 crore in June to December of 2009. The operating profit of the Islami Bank stood at Tk 500 crore, Dutch–Bangla Bank Tk 200 crore, Shahjalal Islami Bank Tk 157 crore, National Credit and Commercial Bank Tk 175 crore and the EXIM Bank Tk 175 crore.
State-owned Agrani Bank’s operating profit stood at Tk 355 crore while Rupali bank’s profit was Tk 100 crore .
