The Barisal airport became operative for commercial passenger flights on Thursday by resuming domestic flights of United Airways on the Dhaka-Barisal-Dhaka route.
The airport turned into an abandoned cattle-grazing field in the
absence of flight operation since May 5, 2009.The inaugural ceremony of the resumption of United Airways flights was held at Concourse Hall of the Barisal airport at noon after the landing of its aircraft at 11:45 am with 15 passengers and 46 guests and crew on board.
Muhammad Faruk Khan MP, civil aviation and tourism minister, was chief guest of the ceremony attended by Shawkat Hossain Hiron, Barisal city mayor and city AL president, Dhirendra Devnath Shamvu, Nurul Islam Moni, AL lawmakers, Air Vice Marshal Mahmud Hussain, chairman of civil aviation authority, Captain Tasbirul Ahmed Choudhury, chairman and managing director, Group Captain (Rtd) Khurshid Alam Chowdhury, revenue director, of United Airways, representatives of different print and electronic media and high officials.
The inaugural flight with slogan ‘Fly Your Own Airline’ departed Barisal Airport at 1:40pm and landed at Dhaka HSIA at 2:10pm with 15 passengers and 45 guests and crew.
