Mozaffer Ahmed and Swadesh Ranjan Bose jointly got the Bangladesh Bank Award-2013, a BB press release said on Wednesday. Both of the economists were awarded posthumously. ‘Professor Dr Mozaffer Ahmed was an exceptional and multitalented researcher,’ the central bank said while announcing the award. The BB also mentioned that Mozaffer contributed immensely to the development of the nation by carried out fundamental researches on industries, education, global economic relations, public enterprises, health, civic rights, labour relations, good governance, rural development, poverty reduction and environment.
Earlier in 2008, Mozaffer received Ekushey Padak in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the economy and the nation. He died on May 12 in 2012.
‘Dr Swadesh Ranjan Bose’s research works in the field of economy especially related to the development policies helped rebuilding Bangladesh immediately after the independence,’ BB said.
Earlier in 2010, Swadesh received Gold Medal of Bangladesh Economic Association. He died in 2009.
The BB introduced the award in 2000 with honouring eminent Professor Rehman Sobhan.
Later, Dr Nurul Islam and Prof Mosharraf Hossain got the award in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
