Bangladesh Bank will release Tk 20,000 crore, including new notes worth Tk 8,000 crore, to mitigate the liquidity crisis in the inter-bank transaction ahead
of the Eid-ul-Fitr, said officials of the central bank.
The BB released Tk 16,000 crore, including fresh notes worth Tk 6,000 crore, before the last Eid-ul-Fitr.
A BB official told New Age on Tuesday that the central bank had already started the pumping of the notes on July 10.
The new notes are now available at all the branches of the central bank and some branches of nine commercial banks in the capital, he said.
The pumping of the notes will continue till the last working day before the Eid-ul-Fitr, he said.
The BB has taken the initiative in accordance
with the monetary policy, he said.
‘The notes issued by the BB in the market are now worth Tk 76,000 crore. The programme of new note releasing will not create any inflationary pressure in the market as it has taken the initiative in line with the monetary programme,’ he said.
