The Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Thursday it accepted the resignation of chief selector Akram Khan, who has recently become a councillor from Chittagong Division and is all set to participate in the forthcoming election. Akram resigned on September 18 to pursue his new ambition that will mark the end of his long professional career – first as a player and then as a selector – and take him to an administrative role.
‘You all know our chief selector has resigned. His resignation was accepted today (Thursday) at our executive committee meeting,’ acting BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters on Thursday.
Akram, who was appointed as a selector in 2007 before being appointed chief selector in 2011, will complete his three-month extended tenure as chief selector this month along with two other selectors Minhajul Abedin and Habibul Bashar.
BCB chief executive said the tenure of two other selectors, Minhajul and Bashar, was extended up to June 30, 2015, though no decision was taken regarding the replacement of Akram.
In the board meeting, ad hoc committee member Naimur Rahman was named national team manager for the forthcoming home series against New Zealand and the tenure of national team’s South African physio Vibhav Singh was also extended up to June 30, 2015.
The Board also approved the appointment of Maj Hussain Imam (retd) as head of security, Sabbir Khan as cricket operations manager.
