The Bangladesh Cricket Board has finalised a list of 120 first-class cricketers, who will be under its payroll for a year starting from January 2013.
The selection criteria have already created some controversies as some of the senior players were put in B category while players without any reputation have been placed in A category.
The BCB said they categorised the players based on their experience in first-class cricket instead of reputation and this is the main reason for a player like former national captain Mohammad Ashraful to be in B category.
Players with experience of playing for 11 years or above in first-class cricket were put in A category, 6-10 years in B category and 1-5 years in C category. Each player from A category will receive a monthly salary of Tk 25,000, B category Tk 20,000 and C category Tk 15,000.
It has been alleged that some players, who were largely ignored by their respective divisional sides over the last few seasons also have been included in its payroll.
National players, who are under BCB payroll, have been excluded from the list.
Only nine players from different divisions are under grade A. Anisur Rahman and Mohammad Shahjada from Rajshahi, Nafees Iqbal and Faisal Hossain from Chittagong, Rajin Saleh and Imtiaz Hossain from Sylhet, Shahin Hossain from Barisal, Imran Ahmed from Dhaka and Tushar Imran from Khulna are the players in the top category.
National players Mohammad Ashraful, Shahriar Nafees, Alok Kapali and Shahadat Hossain, who are out of the central contract of BCB, have been placed in grade B
