Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury on Wednesday defended their preparations of Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium for the opening Test match of recent home series against Australia. The International Cricket Council recently in a report rated the outfield of venue ‘poor’ for the game and sought an explanation from the BCB within 14 days. The BCB chief executive said they already sent their reply to the ICC, explaining that the prolonged monsoon rain and subsequent hampered their preparation of the ground for the Test.
‘You know that it was really challenging for us to prepare the field due to the flood and rain,’ he told reporters in Mirpur. ‘But despite everything our grounds committee worked really hard for this. If the weather was not that bad, this kind of things would have never occurred.
‘They only complained about the grass of the ground but rest of the things was okay,’ he said.
The BCB chief executive said they were not too concerned about the ICC report, terming it as a routine matter.
‘This is a routine matter. The match referee always submits a report to the ICC after an international match. Since we got the ICC accreditation [for this ground] in 2005, we never received any complaint.
‘We organised many major ICC events here. The final of 2014 ICC World T20 and three consecutive Asia Cups held here,’ he pointed out.
