The Bangladesh Cricket Board at an emergency meeting on Monday formed a committee to finalise the details of media rights, said the officials.
BCB’s chairman of the marketing and commercial committee Kazi Enam Ahmed will head the committee which also included directors Afzalur Rahman Sinha, Mahbubul Anam, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan and Ismail Haider Mallick.
The media rights had been the only agenda of the meeting, which the BCB had to adjourn due to absence of president Nazmul Hasan.
Nazmul flew to Singapore for an emergency medical check-up.
The BCB floated the tender for the media rights for a period from May 2014-May 2020, when Bangladesh is expected to host at least 31 Tests, 33-47 one-day internationals and 14 Twenty20 Internationals.
The media rights included at least two series against India, which generate the maximum revenue.
‘TV rights are very important for us other than the team sponsorship, this is one of the biggest sources of revenue for us,’ Enam told reporters at a press conference.
‘We have taken it seriously so that this earning can be secured and proper.’
The BCB is without a permanent broadcaster since its last deal with Singapore-based Indian company Nimbus Sports International worth $56.88 million expired in March 2012.
The BCB claimed Nimbus owed $23milllion and a case is pending in a Singapore arbitration court.
‘Of course with Nimbus we had certain bad experiences, it is not just nimbus we have taken the other past agreements seriously,’ said Enam.
‘Considering all agreements and legal aspects we are preparing our tender documents,’ he said.
A part of the tender documents was made available to the interested parties from April 27.
It can be bought until May 8 before the BCB opens the bid on May 12.
BCB’s media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said they discussed the floor price for the media rights during Monday’s emergency meeting, but nothing has been finalised.
‘We discussed many issues including the floor price,’ said Jalal. ‘But we cannot share it with you since a committee was formed for the purpose.’ ‘After taking a suggestion from the committee we will share it in the next board meeting,’ he said.
