Bangladesh’s planned home series against Pakistan in next January could be deferred by a few months, said an official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, adding that negotiations are ongoing to hold it after the World Cup in Australia-New Zealand. According to the Future Tour Programme of the International Cricket Council, Pakistan are scheduled to play two Tests, three one-day internationals and a Twenty20 international before the World Cup begins.
However, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, acting chief executive officer of the BCB, said neither party is interested for the series just before the World Cup and thus a rescheduling became an obvious choice.
‘Probably the series will be held after the World Cup, we have some available slots after the tournament,’ he said. ‘However, the new schedule has not been finalised yet.’
The BCB is working on finalising its domestic calendar keeping in mind the new found slot that was otherwise allotted for the Pakistan series.
The domestic season could start with the National Cricket League in October with the Dhaka Premier League for 2014-15 season planned in December-January. In between the two competitions, the BCB is planning to resume the tainted Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament.
A decision regarding the domestic calendar could be taken at a meeting of BCB’s relevant standing committees today.
