The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided not to send the national team to India for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, following a directors’ meeting on Sunday.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play four group stage matches in India. However, the BCB has informed the International Cricket Council that it will not be able to send the team to India due to security concerns.
The decision was taken after an emergency directors’ meeting and later announced through a press release.
‘The Board reviewed the situation in detail, taking into account developments over the last 24 hours and expressed deep concern over the overall circumstances surrounding the participation of the Bangladesh National Team in matches scheduled to be played in India,’ said the press release.
‘Following a thorough assessment of the prevailing situation and the growing concerns regarding the safety and security of the Bangladesh contingent in India and considering the advice from the Bangladesh Government, the Board of Directors resolved that the Bangladesh National Team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions.’
The board also requested the ICC to shift their venues to Sri Lanka.
‘In light of this decision, the BCB has formally requested the International Cricket Council, as the event authority, to consider relocating all of Bangladesh’s matches to a venue outside India,’ the statement added.
Earlier, the BCCI directed KKR to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, following criticisms from politicians and religious figures associated with India’s ruling party.
The removal sparked outrage in Bangladesh, with many, including sports adviser Asif Nazrul, calling for the BCB not to send the national team to India due to security concerns and to request the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka.
