The Bangladesh Cricket Board is not at all worried if the Pakistan Cricket Board decides against sending their national cricket team for the forthcoming Asia Cup and the ICC World Twenty20 as the tournaments are under the control of the Asian Cricket Council and the International Cricket Council respectively, said a BCB official on Saturday. It was reported that the Pakistani cricket authorities might be maintaining a diplomatic stance on their national team’s participation in the forthcoming Asia Cup and World T20 events in Bangladesh, to be held early next year, but chances of a pull-out are looming large.
A source told PTI that there are concerns in the Pakistan Cricket Board about the situation in Bangladesh and the growing anti-Pakistan sentiments.
‘The participation of the team in the Asia Cup and the ICC World Twenty20 is under the jurisdiction of ACC and ICC respectively,’ Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters on Saturday.
‘We are keeping constant contact with ACC and ICC on all issues including security,’ said Nizamuddin.
Protests against Pakistan have grown in Bangladesh since the Pakistan parliament passed a resolution on the execution of a Jamaat-e-Islami leader in Bangladesh, who opposed the creation of Bangladesh in 1971 and was treated as a war criminal.
On Thursday, protesters demanded that the Bangladesh government sever all diplomatic relations with Pakistan. The Pakistan foreign office has also said it was monitoring the situation in Bangladesh and would advise the PCB in due course of time.
