Abdur Razzak, the former national team off-spinner and selector, is poised to be elected as a BCB director without any opposition in the upcoming elections, as reported by the Election Commission on Sunday.
On Sunday, a total of 51 nomination papers were submitted, from the 60 that had been collected the day before, according to Sheikh Mohammad Jobaed Hossain, the returning officer for the BCB elections.
However, only two nomination papers were submitted from Khulna Division—Razzak and Zulfiqar Ali Khan.
As Khulna will have two directors, both of them are set to be elected unopposed.
Razzak resigned as a selector—a role he assumed for almost four years—on Saturday after he collected his nomination form for the elections.
Similarly, Sylhet and Barishal also have one candidate each.
Rahat Shams, representing Sylhet Divisional Sports Council, and Shakhawat Hossain, representing Bhola District Council, will be the directors from Sylhet and Barishal, respectively, given that everything goes accordingly.
On the other hand, Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Rangpur divisions will choose their directors by casting votes on October 6.
Current board president Aminul Islam and vice-president Nazmul Abedeen Fahim will contest the election from Dhaka Division along with SM Abdullah Al Fuad Redwan.
Chattogram division will have two directors from four; Rajshahi will elect one from four, while Rangpur will have one from three candidates.
In category two, 30 nomination papers were submitted out of the 32 collected. These categories will have 12 directors on the board.
Former board president Faruque Ahmed, current board directors Fahim Sinha, Manjur Alam, and Iftekhar Rahman, and former national team captain Tamim Iqbal are among the candidates from category two.
Tamim is thought to be a probable candidate for the next president along with the current one, Aminul.
In category three, all three papers were submitted. That includes former national team captain Khaled Mashud Pilot. One director will emerge from this category.
According to the BCB elections schedule, a draft voters list will be published today whereas objections and hearings will be held on September 30.
A final list of candidates will be published on October 1 at 2:00pm.
