BCB still undecided on Mustafiz

The Bangladesh Cricket Control board is still undecided when and where paceman Mustafizur Rahman’s shoulder operation will take place, said BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Wednesday.
Mustafiz has already taken advice from two shoulder surgeons in England –Lennard Funk and Tony Kocchar – to assess his condition and his reports were also sent to Australia’s David Hoye for his observation.
According to Nazmul all the three physicians had suggested for an operation but as Lennard Funk will not be available until August 22 his surgery may be delayed.
Mustafiz is also supposed to meet Andrew Wallace of Fortis Hospital in London and BCB will bring him back home if it is found out that his operation will not take place in short time.
‘We will see who is our best option and that can even be in Australia,’ Nazmul told reporters.
‘Dr Lennard Funk is going on holiday and won’t be back before August 22. Since the ECB suggested two names, we will look into the other doctor, whose name is Andrew Wallace of London’s Fortis Hospital,’ he added.
Speaking in an unscheduled press conference in his Beximco office, Nazmul appeared optimistic regarding the forthcoming home series against England though doubts are raised after recent terrorist attacks in the county.
‘It is still at the same place. We sent them the security proposal but they haven’t given us a feedback,’ said Nazmul.
‘What we are guessing is that since the security inspection team will be traveling to India in mid-August, they will visit Bangladesh too during that trip.
‘They said that they would give the feedback to our proposal when they are here, possibly sometime between August 15 to August 20.’
Nazmul also spoke about the payment issue of Dhaka Premier League as many players alleged that they remained unpaid even after more than five weeks of the completion of the league.
Recently players of Brothers Union met BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury regarding the issue and it was learnt that the players of Victoria Sporting Club received only 25 percent of their payment.
BCB boss reiterated his commitment that the Board will pay off the unpaid players.
BCB had earlier paid players of Kalabagan Cricket Academy and Cricket Coaching School partially.
‘It is very unfortunate that players had to meet the CEO despite being given a deadline [to the clubs],’ said Nazmul.
‘The board will pay even if the club doesn’t. It shouldn’t have been so delayed. The board will deal with the legal procedure with the clubs later.
‘Players shouldn’t suffer, because the system we have used this time, the board has taken responsibility. It was our mistake, we must pay them immediately,’ said the BCB president.
Nazmul said that former Indian left-arm spinner Venkatpathy Raju will arrive in mid August to help the spinners of High Performance unit.
Raju will be second overseas coaches to hold similar coaching programme with BCB’s HP unit after Pakistan’s Aaqib Javed, who worked with the pace bowlers earlier this week.
‘We have got a positive feedback about Aaqib,’ BCB president Nazmul Hassan said in an unscheduled press briefing. ‘We are planning to bring him at the latter stage of the programme.
‘By this time Raju will be here. We have got a big problem with spinners. Once spin bowling was our biggest strength. But now we are lacking quality spinners. I think if Raju comes here we will be benefitted.
The BCB has called up 12 spinners to work with the former Indian cricketer, who played 28 Tests and 53 one-day internationals, claiming 51 and 52 wickets respectively.
Nazmul said they would try to get help from Pakistani bowling coach Aaqib regarding pace bowler Taskin Ahmed’s bowling action.
Taskin and Arafat Sunny were banned from bowling in the international matches for illegal bowling action during the ICC World Twenty20 in India and they must pass ICC’s test to lift the ban.
‘The team’s [bowling review committees] response regarding Taskin is very optimistic as they feel he is almost ready. But there is a difference in equipments as we are doing it in 2-d camera while they [ICC’s test] will do it in 3-d. so you cannot judge accurately,’ said Nazmul.
‘After learning it we decided since Aaqib Javed is here, he will also take a look at their progress.’
