The fate of all-rounder Sakib al Hasan’ appeal against his six-month ban will be decided today when the Bangladesh Cricket Board holds a meeting of its board of directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. The board is expected to show some leniency toward Sakib, who already apologised for his actions that earned him the ban in July. BCB president Nazmul Hasan on different occasions said that he was impressed by Sakib’s behaviour since the suspension, a broad hint that they will consider his appeal positively.
Sakib was banned by the BCB on July 7 from all cricket-related activities for six months for what the Board said ‘a severe attitude problem’.
Sakib was not considered for the ongoing tour of West Indies despite his importance and instead was made to follow a separate practice regime planned by Chandika Hathurusinghe.
Insiders said that the BCB is mulling over the option of reducing his suspension by two months, till October 7, to provide him with a chance to make a comeback in competitive cricket through the Dhaka Premier League.
This will also make him available for the series against Zimbabwe who will arrive in late October for three Tests and five one-day internationals.
