The candidates, who had qualified in the 27th BCS examinations as per the results
published on January 21, 2007, continued their fast unto death programme for the third consecutive day at the Central Shaheed Miner on Tuesday.
They said they would not end their programme unless the government met their demand.
Seven of the candidates and one of their guardians fell sick on the third day of their hunger strike and they were taken to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
The candidates Khairul Islam, Nasrin Jahan Shimi, Shumi Akhter, Razia Akhter, Sayem, and Sumon Nurul Islam were among those who were taken to DMCH for treatment on Tuesday.
At a press briefing organised at the Shaheed Miner Tuesday afternoon, they demanded a positive decision from the government on their future. Some of the candidates said that they were ready to sit for any fresh competitive examinations along with those who had qualified in the 27th BCS examinations as per the results published in September 2008.
They said they would not withdraw their programme till they received an executive order in their favour from the Ministry of Establishment.
They said they had no intention to deprive the candidates who were selected by the results published in September this year as many of them were their friends.
Meanwhile, mothers of some candidates went to the chief adviser’s office on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum, asking the government to take steps to meet their legal demand.
The candidates along with their guardians began their protest Saturday afternoon demanding reinstatement of the results of the 27th BCS examinations published in January 2007 as they felt
their names were dropped intentionally from the list of the successful candidates which was published in September 2008.
