The BCS ICT World, the biggest annual exposition of ICT products in the country, began at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city Saturday.
A huge number of people thronged the fair venue on the first day that coincided with weekly holiday.
‘About 10,000 people, mostly students, visited the fair on the opening day which is very encouraging,’ Nazmul Alam Bhuiyan, joint secretary general of BCS, told BSS.
Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) in cooperation with ICT Business Promotion Council under the commerce ministry has organised the four-day fair.
The theme of this year’s fair is ‘Digital Bangladesh for New Generation’.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the fair as the chief guest in the morning, while state minister for science and ICT Yeafesh Osman was present as the special guest.
Popular and renowned local and overseas brand, importer, producer and supplier organisations are taking part in this fair where 26 pavilions and 66 stalls have been set up by 66 organisations on an area of about 50,000 square feet of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
The organisations are showcasing various types of hardware and software tools, network and data communication devices, telecom service and commodities, multimedia, ICT education instrument, laptop, palmtop, innovative digital life facilitating technologies and goods.
Other features of the fair, they said, include painting competition for children, quiz competitions for students, seminar, symposium, free internet browsing, raffle draw and cultural function.
The fair will remain open to the visitors from 10 am to 9 pm every day. The entrance fee of the fair has been fixed at Tk 20, but school students can visit the fair without any fee.
