Up close and personal with Sanjida Pritee
Sanjida Pritee came into the limelight with her stellar performances in “Sporsher Baire” and “Kachher Manush”. Since then, the actress has a packed schedule, both in the spheres of TV dramas and theatre roles.
The Daily Star (TDS) recently caught up with her.
TDS: What keeps you busy these days?
Pritee: I’m currently working in two mega serials: one is Afsana Mimi’s “Poush Phaguner Pala” being aired on ATN Bangla, and the other is Badrul Anam Soud’s “Gohine” which is being aired on Desh TV. I’ve also worked in a special play, based on Rabindranath Tagore’s “Tyag”. Another drama I recently worked in is ntv’s “Manobjomin”.
TDS: Tell us about your work in “Poush Phaguner Pala”.
Pritee: I play the role of Indu in the serial. She is a girl who dislikes anything black, but she marries a man with a very dark complexion. She falls deeply in love with her husband and seems content with conjugal life. Shooting for the serial is being held in Dhamrai.
TDS: What about “Gohine”?
Pritee: That serial is shot at Moishor village in Gazipur. In the serial, my character’s name is Jol.
TDS: Did you always have plans to be an actress?
Pritee: Not when I was a child, no. But I began performing on stage when I was around 12. Since then I always had plans to be active on stage, but did not plan on appearing in TV plays.
TDS: Which theatre group were you involved with?
Pritee: I used to take singing lessons at Tarango Lalita Kala Academy. There a group was formed with kids and a three-month workshop was organised. From then on, my interest in theatre grew.
TDS: So you were taught the basics of acting when you were very young?
Pritee: Bits and pieces. We also performed in “Notun Kuri” and “Shorgol” at the time. Acting was part of our performance, along with singing and dancing.
TDS: How did you get involved in TV plays?
Pritee: I first appeared on a TV play in 2001. It was titled “Pathor Shomoy”, and was directed by Afzal Hossain. I played the teenager version of Shomi Kaiser’s character.
TDS: Which was the first play that brought you recognition?
Pritee: The 2003 drama “Shondhi” brought me much appreciation.
TDS: To what extent did “Sporsher Baire” and “Kachher Manush” bring you closer to your audience?
Pritee: In “Sporsher Baire” I played the role of Sukonna, a happy, simple girl who gradually becomes more complicated. In Suchitra Bhattacharya’s “Kachher Manush”, my role was that of Titir, a calm and quiet character who was in conflict with her mother. Both roles were turning points in my life.
TDS: You also did some modeling?
Pritee: Not many. I did a commercial for a soap back in 1998 and later on one for Jui Coconut Oil.
TDS: Any other interest?
Pritee: Acting captures my whole range of interest.
TDS: Tell us about your theatre group Prachchyanat.
Pritee: I’ve been with this group for a long time. Productions like “Circus Circus”, “Raja Ebong Onyanno”, “Punorjonmo” and “Koinna” are being staged regularly. A new production may also hit the stage soon under the direction of Kazi Toufiqul Islam Imon.
TDS: How would you describe yourself?
Pritee: My thoughts are always simple, without any complication. I love hanging out with friends and roaming around.
