Ahead of prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Belarus in the first week of July, the Belarus government has shown its interest in assisting Bangladesh in the field of sports, education and culture.
Keeping that in mind, the Bangladesh government desired to know the opinion of the Bangladesh Football Federation on what kind of assistance they can seek from the East European country.
A number of bilateral co-operation instruments may be signed during the visit of the Bangladesh premier.
The ministry of foreign affairs issued a letter to the BFF on Thursday and inquired about the standard of Belarusian football in the international arena and also asked for some opinion about how to strike a deal with Belarus regarding football.
Toufique Hasan, director (Europe) of the ministry of foreign affairs, informed the BFF that there might be an inter-ministerial meeting on the visit to Belarus soon, where they will discuss the possible collaboration in football between the two countries.
Abu Nayeem Shohag, general secretary of the BFF gave some of their estimations to the foreign ministry in a written reply.
‘Belarus are a good footballing nation and currently ranked 67th in the official FIFA world rankings. Coaches from Belarus for our women’s football team and age level teams, preferably the Under 16s, would be beneficial for us,’ Shohag wrote to the foreign ministry adding that, ‘exchange of football teams or friendly matches between the two countries would also be a worthwhile decision.’
