Prime Bank Cricket Club captain Sakib al Hasan was confident with his side’s chances of winning the Amber Victory Day Twenty20 Cup due to the strength of his team, said the Bangladesh all-rounder after the final on Tuesday. Prime Bank won the inaugural edition of the competition after defeating UCB-BCB XI by 55 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.‘We knew we were a better side, and our bowling was our main strength,’ Sakib said after the award ceremony.
‘So we were confident after posting 174 on the board.’
Sakib also praised the just-concluded tournament for helping to increase the players’ T20 experience.
BCB initiated the tournament hurriedly as the shortest format that is believed to be the weakest link of the Tigers and it paid it dividend with some notable performances from the local cricketers.
‘It will help [our cricketers], naturally,’ said Sakib. ‘Even if it helps 10 percent still at least it is better to have something rather than nothing.’
However, Sakib did not believe that the intensity of the Bangladesh Premier League was present in the competition.
‘Everything was here. The only difference between the BPL and this tournament is while there was pressure before every match in the BPL it was not the same here.’
While Sakib was enjoying his team’s success, his counterpart Tamim Iqbal also emphasised the importance of the competition.
‘For me, this tournament should always happen. It’s not like it should close down after one year. The BPL is very important, but here it depends completely on the locals.’
