The forthcoming election of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation took a new turn of events on Tuesday as the panels backed by Abahani and
Mohammedan-Mariners accused each other of forging signatures of the councillors.
The Mohammedan-Mariners backed panel alleged that the opposition group indulged themselves in unfair activities by falsifying signatures of seven councillors who previously belonged to their panel.
In a startling revelation, Anwara Sarker, councillor of Gazipur district came up with a written complaint to the Election Commission that her own signature was forged by someone.
On the last day of nomination submission, Anwara found that her name appeared on the Mohammedan-Mariners backed panel but she claimed that she had no knowledge of it.
Returning officer Arjuma Akhter confirmed Anawara’s allegation.
‘Anawara [Sarker] herself appeared and stated that she had not put any signature on the nomination paper and demanded that the nomination paper which was submitted on her name be withdrawn,’ said Arjuma adding that the EC would require a show-cause notice from the
relevant panel on this issue.
Meanwhile, Mohammedan councillor Sajed AA Adel declined the wrongdoings.
‘Anwara Sarker, daughter of Ansaruddin Sarker, signed the nomination paper in front of me. Now she has been forced to bring the allegation under pressure from the highest body of the government,’ said Adel, a vice president candidate of the June 27 election.
