The Bangladesh Hockey Federation signed a five-year contract with private satellite television channel ATN Bangla worth Tk one crore for the National Championship
at the Bangladesh Olympic Association on Saturday.
As per the contract, the BHF will run a national-level hockey competition titled ATN Bangla Gold Cup National Championship for the next five years.
The district sports association teams will compete in the primary stage at the divisional level. One or more teams from each division will move to the final round which will take place at the Moulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
‘In order to build a strong national team, the game of hockey must spread to the grass-root level and the school level is the best place to scout for talented hockey players,’ said Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, chairman of ATN Bangla during the contract signing ceremony.
Mahfuzur added that they were planning to start a nationwide school hockey competition as soon as possible and are willing to assist the BHF in their age-level group programmes.
BHF president Air Marshal Enamul Bari was present among others at the ceremony.
