Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in Dhanmondi has organised a solo watercolour exhibition titled “Rural Nature” featuring the works of Bimanesh Chandra Biswas.
At the exhibition, most of his artworks have been done in watercolour where he captures the simplicity of rural Bengal and its varied aspects. The painter finds tranquillity and harmony in nature that helps him to evoke the splendour of the Bengal landscape on his papers. His approach and style are inspired by European impressionism and post-impressionism.
Mijarul Quayes, secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest on September 20 at Bengal Gallery. Noted art critic and architect Shamsul Wares and senior painter Hashem Khan were present as special guests at the inauguration programme. The exhibition will continue till September 29.
Biswas was born in 1953 in Narail. He came into contact with veteran artist S.M. Sultan in his early childhood and developed his drawing and painting skills under the master’s guidance. He obtained a BFA degree from the Institute of Fine Arts (now the Faculty of Fine Arts), University of Dhaka. Biswas is now the chairman, Department of Drawing and Painting, Institute of Fine Arts, Khulna University.
