Blue panel bags majority posts

Pro-Awami League Blue panel bagged majority posts in the election to the Dhaka University Teachers’ Associ-ation (DUTA), held on Wednesday. The blue panel won nine posts including post of president while BNP-Jamaat backed white panel bagged six posts including post of general secretary.
Prof Khandokar Bazlul Haq of International Business from Blue panel and Prof ABM Obaidul Islam of Physics from white panel have been elected president and general secretary respectively.
Prof Mohammad Akhtaruzz-aman and Prof Momtaj Uddin Ahmed from Blue panel have been elected for the post of vice-president and treasurer respectively. Prof Muhammad Lutfur Rahman from White panel has been elected joint secretary.
The elected members from Blue Panel are Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Prof RIM Aminur Rashid, Prof Kazi Shahidullah, Prof Fakhrul Alam, Prof Harun-or Rashid and Prof Syed Monjurul Islam.
The elected members from white panel are Prof Sadrul Amin, Prof Tazmeri SA Islam, Dr AKM Sirajul Islam Khan and Dr Laila Noor Islam.
Voting started at 10am and continued till 2pm at the Dhaka University Club with Prof Prof Fazle Elahi of Sociology department as election commissioner. A total 1,168 teachers cast their votes. DUTA election was not held last year due to a stay order by a Dhaka court.
