BNP and its allies have bagged 212 seats while Jamaat and allies secured 77 seats in the 13th parliamentary elections held yesterday.
According to the unofficial results declared by the Election Commission (EC) in 297 seats, BNP alone won 209 seats.
BNP’s allies Ganosamhati Andolan, Bangladesh Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad won one seat each.
Jamaat alone secured win in 68 seats while its allies National Citizen Party (NCP) bagged six seats, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis two, and Khelafat Majlis one seat.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh won only one seat while independent candidates secured win in seven seats.
The EC postponed the elections in the Sherpur-3 (Sreebordi-Jhenaigati) constituency following the death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nuruzzaman Badol.
Results in Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 were withheld due to legal issues, according to the EC.
On February 3, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court allowed Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury, candidate of Chattogram-4, to contest the poll by disposing of a writ petition filed by him with the High Court Division.
However, the court ruled that the election result will remain suspended until the case is finally settled.
Similarly, the Appellate Division responded to a writ petition filed by Sarwar Alamgir, candidate of Chattogram-2, allowing him to contest the election but keeping the result on hold until the case is resolved.
