BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain on Tuesday said the BNP leaders and activists will foil the government’s move to form regional task force in the name of combating terrorism.
“The BNP will never accept foreign troops on the soil of Bangladesh in the name of combating terrorism through forming regional task force. Are our military and other law enforcers failing to maintain law and order and combating terrorism? We will never give any chance to the ruling Awami League to implement its evil dream. If it is needed, we will launch countrywide massive movement to foil the government’s will,” Delwar said while addressing a function organized by Jatiyatabadi Chattra Dal (JCD) on Dhaka University campus yesterday evening.
BNP Secretary General called upon the government to stop its student wing Bangladesh Chattra League’s violent activities in public university campuses.
“The higher educational institutions throughout the country have been turned into criminal zones and battle fields as BCL along with outsider terrorists continue to occupy the dormitories and oust the activists of other student wings from their respective halls,” he said.
Delwar said a puppet government which came to power through massive vote rigging and election engineering, is now ruling the country. “This puppet government in the name of formation of regional task force is threatening the country’s sovereignty and independence toward uncertainty and threat,” he added.
He said Awami League never implemented its election manifesto in the past. “Offering Deputy Speaker post to the opposition, Awami League is actually alluring BNP. Did we desire the post of Deputy Speaker? Now Awami League wants to create another post of Deputy Speaker by amending constitution. Creation of another Deputy Speaker post by amending constitution is a total violation of the constitution,” he said.
He said it is clear that Awami League is not cordial in implementing its poll manifesto. “With anxiety and grave concern, we are watching ruling Awami League’s activities. Bagging majority seats in the parliament, Awami League is planning to change the constitution to serve its own interest. The people of the country are worried over the creation of another post of Deputy Speaker in the parliament,” BNP Secretary General said.
He further called upon the ruling Awami League to shun the path of its own interest and work for the greater interest of the country. “As per your (Awami League) electoral promise, we are calling upon you to elect a Deputy Speaker from the opposition in the first session of the 9th parliament scheduled to begin on January 25. If the ruling Awami League doesn’t elect the Deputy Speaker from opposition, it will be branded as betrayer before the nation. Remember!” Delwar cautioned.
