Shrugging off the Prime Minister’s remark that the opposition is responsible for this year’s poor and unexpected results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations, BNP on Saturday said it has became a habit of the government to blame its opponent for anything bad.
“The Prime Minister as usual has blamed the opposition for the unexpected HSC results. Whenever something bad happens the government always blames the opposition, it’s like a scapegoat,” said BNP acting sectary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP spokesman came up with his party’s reaction to the PM’s remark while addressing an iftar party arranged by Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) at Ladies’ Club in the city.
The results of the HSC and its equivalent examinations were published on Saturday showing an average pass rate of 74.30 percent as against 78.67 percent last year.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the copies of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina around 10 am at her official residence Ganobhaban.
After receiving the results, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “It’s the BNP and Jamaat-Shibir who are responsible for this decline.”
Dismissing the Prime Minister’s remarks, Fakhrul said, “Why are you in office if you pass the buck to the opposition. Step down and let BNP run the state.”
He alleged that the ruling party student body, Chhatra League, has destroyed the academic atmosphere in educational institutions by indulging in terrorism and tender manipulation.
Fakhrul said the whole country is on the verge of destruction due to the government’s stubbornness and misrule. “We all need to be united to get rid of this situation.”
Turing to the national election, he alleged that the government is not willing to arrange the next polls under a non-party government fearing further humiliating defeat.
He claimed that the demand for restoration of the caretaker government has turned into a mass demand, and urged the Jasas men to mobilise people at the grassroots level to force the regime to accept it.
Fakhrul also expressed deep shock at the death of former MP KM Hemayet Ullah Auranga in a road accident at Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj.
He also prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members.
