Bangladesh Nritya Shilpy Sangstha paid homage to noted dancer Kamol Sarkar on the occasion of his 18th death anniversary, which fell on October 14. A programme that featured a discussion session and dance recitations by different member troupes of the organisation was held at the Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Thursday. Laila Hasan, noted dancer and also president of the organisation, along with noted dancers Amanul Haque, Saju Ahmed, Kabirul Islam Ratan, Faiza Khan Jhunu, Dipa Khandokar, and others talked at the programme. The speakers credited Kamol Sarkar for popularizing classical music in the country. They also observed that Kamol Sarkar was not only a skilled dancer but also a very good organiser who founded Dhrupad Kala Kendra in 1986.
Kamol Sarkar was also involved with Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) and has had immense contributions behind what BAFA has accomplished so far.
The discussion session was followed by presentation of dance recitals by artistes of Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts, Nrittyam, Nrityajog, and others.
