Police yesterday formed a committee to investigate into the allegations of harassing a journalist and his family in Tanore upazila.
The committee headed by the additional DIG of Rajshahi Nibash Chandra Majhi was asked to submit report to the DIG as soon as possible.
Rajshahi DIG Siddikur Rahman made the order while receiving a memorandum from a delegation of journalists led by Metropolitan Press Club President Mahtab Uddin. The journalists also submitted memorandums to the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Rajshahi in this regard.
Earlier, journalists, human rights activists and different professional groups formed a huge human chain at Shaheb Bazar Zero point in the city demanding punishment to the policemen responsible for harassing a journalist of Tanore.
Speakers said the policemen committed crimes by assaulting journalist in the police station for writing against them.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Press Club organised the human chain and rally with its President Mahtab Uddin in the chair.
Rajshahi Union of Journalists President Akbarul Hasan Millat, General Secretary Shibli Noman, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Executive Committee member Anu Mostafa, freedom fighters Saidur Rahman, Noor Hamim Rizvi Bir Protik, Mahila Parishad General Secretary Kalpana Roy and Rajshahi Theatre President Kamarullah Sarkar spoke at the rally. The press club General Secretary Anwar Ali moderated the programme.
