An eleven-day book fair, marking the month of victory, commenced on Wednesday on DC Hill premises in Chittagong.
Jatiya Sangsad speaker Abdul Hamid inaugurated the fair at around 5:30pm. The fair will continue till December 25.
While inaugurating the fair, the speaker urged the government to ensure the punishment of war criminals as early as possible.
Chittagong divisional commissioner Mohammed Serajul Haque Khan was chief guest of the inauguration programme while the president of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee chairman Shahriar Kabir, vice-president Professor Muntasir Mamun where present at the fair as special guests.
Sociologist and vice-chancellor of the Premier University Professor Anupom Sen presided over the inaugural programme while secretary general of the fair AKM Jahirul Islam, co-ordinator of the fair Abdullah-al-Harun, freedom fighter Mahfuja Khanam were present among others as discussants.
The fair organised by ‘We Shall Overcome’, a private organisation of Chittagong, while a total of 15 book stalls, including that of the Bangla Academy, took part in the fair.
Chief executive officer of the organisation Showkot Bangali said, ‘We have invited at least 30 publishers to take part in the fair and I hope that they would take part in the fair in two or three days.’
The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 10:00pm every day and the fair is open to all without any entry fee.
