A volume on compilation of history of coins found in this region from ancient, medieval and colonial to modern period was launched on Sunday.
Publishing house Nymphea launched the book,
Coins found in Bangladesh, aat a hotel in the city.Addressing the launching ceremony, the author of the book, AKM Shahnewaz, also Jahangirnagar University archaeology department professor, said that the book enclosed a guide to the coins in Bengal, especially circulated in the history in the territory of Bangladesh.
Coins possess not only economic worth, but also unique design that resembles the culture of that time, he said.
Nymphea chief-executive officer Karunangshu Barua, Standard Chartered Bank chief executive officer Jim McCabe and Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman also spoke.
Bangladesh Bank has issued a number of commemorative coins marking important historic events which included the 20th anniversary of Victory Day of Bangladesh, the 1992 Olympic games, the silver jubilee of independence, the 25th anniversary of Bangladesh Bank and the international mother language day, said Atiur rahman.
