A woman was stabbed to death by a robber in her residence in the Barisal city early Friday.
The victim was identified as Dil Afroza Shimu, 40, lecturer of Bangladesh Open University and wife of Mahmud Al Jalal, a teacher of Amrita Lal Dey College in the city.
The Kawnia police officer-in-charge, Mahbubur Rahman, said a robber broke into the house on Jonaki Shing Road by cutting window grille at around 3:00am.
The couple and their two daughters were sleeping in three rooms and the robber locked in the husband, he said.
The robber stabbed the wife in the chest as she tried to resist and fled the scene with two mobiles and Tk 2,500 in cash, he added.
Police said the daughters unlocked their father’s room and took the wounded to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where she was declared dead.
Police handed over the body to the victim’s family, lodging a UD case after the post-mortem examination.
Preparation for filing a murder case was going on till Friday evening. The police said they primarily suspected that the killer was a drug addict from the locality.
Assistant police commissioner of BMP Abu Raihan Saleh said a CID team visited the spot and was collecting evidence.
