At the advent of monsoon, the Bangladesh Railway started eviction of unauthorized dwellings illegally set up on the hillocks at Central Railway Building area.
Huge causalities in different hill collapses and mud slugging took place in the previous rainy seasons forced the BR authorities to conduct such drives for saving human lives from death.
District Executive Magistrate Mohammad Ruhul Amin and Chittagong Metropolitan Police jointly conducted the eviction drive at Golachipa Hill of CRB area Thursday and removed nearly 70 slums and mud-houses that were illegally set up there.
The BR authority during the drive asked the families to move to safer places in order to avoid any possible disaster.
BR Divisional Estate officer M Abdul Bari said they conducted the drive to evict the unauthorized families which were living in dangerous conditions at the foothills for long as the families had been living there in spite of several notices by the BR authority.
Earlier, the BR authority also evicted nearly 70 families from the hill on Wednesday, he added.
At least 180 persons were killed in different landslides in the city during last seven years including 127 dead on June 11, 2007.
