Since its inception in spring 2002, BRAC University Cultural Club has been nurturing the cultural traits of BRACU students. The members of this club successfully participated in events like MUSICon and South Asian University Festival bringing the club both national and international acclaim. Last week, the club celebrated its 12th founding anniversary. The event mainly comprised of two segments, the first being ‘Best of CuC’ which was held in BRAC University’s Mohakhali Campus on June 25 and the other being the ‘Inter University Cultural Festival’ held in Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on June 27.
In the first segment of the event, all the present and past performers of BRACU Cultural Club showcased their talent through entertaining performances. The show started with Tahmid Hussain, the secretary of performance of the club, paying tribute to Michael Jackson with a choir group and dancers, as June 25 also marked MJ’s 5th death anniversary.
The past members of the club performed on stage and relived the time they spent as a part of this CuC family. About this event, the club president Asif Anjum Ayon said, ‘The purpose of this event was to decrease the gap between the mentors/past members of the club and the new members so that, the new members get more familiar to these faces.’
The main attraction of this segment was the performance by the band Warfaze. They performed hits like Oshamajik, Boshe achi and Moharaj which made the crowd roar reach a whole new level. Mashrukul Huque, a student of CSE at BRAC University said, ‘I never witnessed Warfaze live. Oni Hasan’s guitar skills are amazing. He is an inspiration to all the guitarists out there. Thanks to BRAC University Cultural Club for pulling off such a fantastic show. The 12 years celebration is a success and the biggest event of the year at BRAC University.’
The second segment was the ‘Inter University Cultural Festival’ where the cultural clubs of 6 universities performed to celebrate the 12 years of the club. The participating clubs were: Murchhona: BUET, North South University Sangskritik Sangathan (NSUSS), ULAB Sangskritik Shangsad, East West University Club for Performing Arts, South East Cultural Club and BRAC University Cultural Club.
Tamzid Ahmed Ananda, the vice-president of BUCuC said, ‘We wanted to spread this celebration and share it with other universities; this was the main motive behind conducting this segment.’
Faiyaz Siddique, a student of BBA at North South University, said ‘One of my friends invited me to go to this event and I loved every bit of it. All the universities gave their best efforts and put up amazing performances on stage.’
