Fifty children aged between five and 15 are getting training on difficult acrobatic techniques at a workshop at the Rajbari Acrobatic Centre.
Two acrobats, Shahana Akhter and Khurshida Khatun, are conducting the three-month workshop organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy with the mission to create skilled acrobatic artistes. Despite a huge popularity, acrobatic is neglected in the country.
‘Acrobatic is a performing art that requires sound physique and intensive training. In this workshop we will introduce the children to the basics of acrobatic performances and will be groomed physically’, said Shahana Akhter, one of the workshop conductors, told New Age.
Besides organising the workshop, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has planned to hold shows in all the 64 districts of the country beginning from the next week.
‘We hope such programmes will generate interest on acrobatics display’, said Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The DG further said the academy organised several acrobatic workshops and exhibitions in the past year to regularise the practice of the art form, which became stagnant since 1998.
