Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has chalked out a six-day programme to observe the International Women’s Day.
The programme features theatre shows, documentary and film screening, recitation, discussion and others at the theatre halls, music and dance centre and national art gallery auditorium.
The event was inaugurated by a number of children in presence of Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA on Saturday.
Following the inauguration, Loko Natyadal staged one of its acclaimed theatre productions Lilaboti Akkhyan at the National Theatre Hall of the academy.
Written and directed respectively by Nasrin Mustafa and Liaquat Ali Lucky, the play revolves around the legendary character Khona, a female who could read the weather and the stars.
Khona eventually falls prey to the patriarchic society that severed her tongue but could not tame her indomitable spirit.
Yesterday, BSA Repertory theatre team staged all-female production Bideho at the Music and Dance Centre of the academy.
Written and directed respectively by Shahman Maishan and Lucky Enam, the play features the agonies of two Biranganas (war heroines)- one Muslim and one Hindu- who share their sorrows with each other, as both have endured trauma and lifelong stigma. Living by the river Meghna, they only wish to die peacefully. The play has another character, a war-child, who works as the bridge between two generations.
Today, noted filmmaker Kohinur Akter Suchanda’s Hajar Bochhor Dhore based on Jahir Raihan’s novel, will be screened at National Art Gallery Auditorium.
On Tuesday, another noted female filmmaker Samia Zaman’s Rani Kuthir Baki Itihas will be screened at the same venue.
On Wednesday, a recitation programme titled Ami Birangana Bolchhi has been planned where noted female artistes will perform.
The six-day programme will end on Thursday with discussion and screening of a documentary Memories of 71 at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the academy.
