Abducts three others
Indian Border Security Force shot dead two more Bangladeshi youths at Bibhishon frontier in Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj early on Wednesday.
Masud Rana Babu, 23, and Shahidul Islam, 28, were shot dead and their bodies were taken away by BSF, officials of Border Guard Bangladesh said.
This is the second double killing by the BSF just a day after two Bangladeshi cow traders were shot dead at Bujruk frontier in Haripur upzilla of Thakurgaon district on Tuesday.
Major Sharif Mahmud, 2nd in command of 43 battalion of BGB, said that BSF personal of Pilashon camp in India opened fire on Bibhishon frontier, leaving Masud and Shahidul dead on the spot.
After killing them, BSF men took away the dead bodies, the BGB official said.
They were heading towards India for cattle trading, the BGB officials said.
BGB protested the killing asking BSF to return the bodies, said Major Sharif.
Following a BGB-BSF flag meeting, BGB officials said that BSF would return the bodies after conducting autopsy in India.
Masud was son of Afsar Uddin of Bibhishon Akkelpur village under Gomostapur upazila, and Shahidul was son of Mostafa Mia of Diar Shahapara village under Shibganj upazila in the district, their families said.
The BSF killed 967 unarmed Bangladeshis from January 1, 2000 to November 30, 2012, according to the Dhaka based human rights organisation, Odhikar.
Of which, 35 people were killed in last year while two were killed on Tuesday.
When approached, the home minister, Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, told reporters at a function in the capital that the government would investigate the killings.
‘It would be investigated whether they had opened fire in self defence… if it was not for self defence then necessary steps would be taken through the proper channel,’ he said.
Meanwhile in separate incidents, the BSF abducted three Bangladeshis from Jaipurhat and Panchagarah on Wednesday.
New Age correspondent in Thakurgaon reported that the BSF abducted a rickshaw van puller from Tetulia frontier of Tetulia upzilla in Panchagarah district on Wednesday.
According to local people, BSF abducted Ahasanullah, 35, son of Eanayetullah from village Kazipara, when he went to his paddy field near the border to collect paddy and carry those in his van.
The BSF detained him when he went near the Indian border.
Shajahan Ali, company commander of Tetulia BGB said, ‘The personnel of Haftiagonj BSF had abducted the man. We asked the BSF authorities to sit in a flag meeting to discuss the matter.’
New Age correspondent in Jaipurhat reported that BSF also picked up two Bangladeshis from the border near Panchbibi in Jaipurhat on Wednesday afternoon.
