Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) accorded a reception to two renowned sports writers on Thursday marking the World Sports Journalists’ Day. The programme was held at the auditorium of the National Sports Council Tower. The two sports writers are : Akhter Hossain Khan and Selim Nazrul Haque.
President of BSPA Rezaur Rahaman Sohug presided over the function while Arif Sohel, the General Secretary of BSPA delivered the address of welcome.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Ahad Ali Sarker was the chief guest of the programme.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Ahad Ali Sarker gave away a crest and a blazer each to the two recipients sports writers.
It is mentionable that a total of 140 countries, which are affiliated to International Sports Press Association (AIPS), observed the World Sports Journalists Day. Bangladesh Sports Press Association is the only organization of the country, which is affiliated to the AIPS.
The 140 countries have observed the World Sports Journalists’ Day since 1995. The organizations, which are affiliated to the AIPS, have observed the Day on July2 every year. BSPA observed the Day yesterday this year due to FIFA World Cup Football 2010.
Akhter Hossain Khan started his career as a Sports Reporter of the Daily Observer in the year of 1969.
Khan wrote his first writing in the prominent daily Dainik Bangla in the year of 1970. Then, he worked as a Sports Reporter until 1974.
After that he wrote as a freelancer writer in Prothom Alo, Inqilab, Amar Desh, Bhorer Kagoj, Bichitra etc.
Later, He joined the government service and distinguished himself for his hardihood. He worked in the topmost posts of the government service in his colourful career.
Besides, He was a famous sports organizer.
Selim Nazrul Haque was a Sports Reporter in the starting of his career.
He was the Sports Editor of the Weekly Robbar.
Selim covered the matches of Bangladesh in the ICC Trophy in England in the year of 1982. He also covered Asian Games in New Delhi in that year. He was the elected Sports Secretary of Dhaka Journalists Union (DUJ) for one year and two times he was elected Executive Member of DUJ.
Selim Nazrul Haque is now an Executive Member of BSPA and he is now Executive General Manager of Uttara Bank Limited.
Haque is a good sports organizer and he took part in many events in his glorious career.
