The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution on Friday sealed a factory named Sonia Lozenge adjacent to Hajaribagh Park in the capital and seized ingredients of lozenge.
BSTI executive magistrate Md Asaduzzaman, investigator Md Jahidur Rahman and metropolitan police conducted the mobile court drive, said a press release.They found that the manufacturers used wax, dying color, talcum powder and thick sugar which should not be used for making lozenges and they have manufactured lozenges in an unhygienic environment.
The factory does not have the BSTI license and uses illegal its sign breaking the law.
The factory manager, Md Shopon, and manufacturer Md Shahjalal were awarded one year imprisonment.
The factory was sealed and fined Tk 50,000 for adulteration one year ago but it paid the fine and started again manufacturing illegally.
BSTI sealed the organisation once again and filed a regular case against the owner, Md Abul Kalam, this time and destroyed the ingredients and 500 reserved lozenges in the presence of the mobile court.
