The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission on Monday issued no objection certificate for nine new firms to provide international recharge service which allows loading mobile balance from abroad.
Earlier there were four firms providing the service — Ezetop Limited, Firefly, ValuePlus Computer System and E-Blink Solution. The BTRC Monday’s notice also named nine other firms for the service — Shurjomukhi, Software Shop Ltd, AND Technologies, Wintel Ltd, Foster Corporation Ltd, Codero Ltd, CloudWell Ltd, HN Telecom Ltd and Digicon Global Services Ltd.
The NOC was issued in the same condition as before, said BTRC officials.
The BTRC recently issued a show-cause notice to the first IRS firm, Ezetop, on charge of violating the relevant rules.
Ezetop was charging 8.8 per cent additional amount from clients in the name of service charge and currency conversion rate while loading mobile balance from abroad.
The firm was deducting $0.88 as service charge from clients for loading $10 and also charging 13 per cent while converting the US dollar to the taka.
The telecom rules bar the international reloading firms to charge any additional amount in the name of service or installation charges.
The BTRC’s NOC also
said the company had to maintain the currency rate mentioned by Bangladesh Bank at the time of such transaction without any customisation.
It also asked the firms to come up with revenue sharing models with the network provider.
‘The Ezetop solved its problems and we have found its service modulus as per law in a recent investigation,’ said a BTRC official when asked about the breach of law by the Ezetop.
The international recharge firms are allowed to get the discount facility of 3.5 per cent alike the local recharge firms, he said.
