The food minister, Abdur Razzaque, has said the Food Security
Act-2013 will be passed in the upcoming budget session.
He said the present government had taken initiatives to enact a law to secure food security in the country and the law would be implemented after passing in the next budget session.
The minister said this as the chief guest at a seminar on ‘Food Security-2013’ held at Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries auditorium Sunday noon.
Razzaque said people of the country were passing their days amid panic about food security forcing the government to enact the law to remove the panic.
He said the cabinet asked food ministry to enact a law for securing food security prompting the ministry preparing the law.
Abdur Razzaque said there was a serious panic among the people about food processing industries as adulterated food creates deadly diseases in human body.
‘We called for a food law and we will try to implement it speedily and the government seeks cooperation from the people all walks of life,’ he added.
Regarding the present political situation in the country, the minister said participation of all political parties was necessary for an acceptable, free and fair election.
‘The prime minister is sincere about an acceptable, free and fair election as per the constitution for which we want to sit for discussion’, he commented.
With CCCI president Mahbubul Alam in the chair, it was addressed, among others, by former CCCI president MA Latif, MP, vice-chancellor of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University Fazlul Bari, CCCI director Sayed Jamal Ahmed, deputy director of Consumer Right And Prevention Directorate Jubair Ahmed and Consumer Right Association of Bangladesh Iqbal Bahar Sabery.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated food warehouse in city’s Dewanhat area.
