Legendary film actor Bulbul Ahmed was analysed as an artiste and a person at a commemorative programme at the seminar hall of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
Cultural organisation Swapnalok arranged the programme to mark the actor’s third death anniversary that was on Sunday.
The seminar was attended by noted filmmakers Chashi Nazrul Islam and Sohanur Rahman Sohan. Presidium member of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Keramat Moula and general secretary of the organisation Jhuna Chowdhury, general secretary of Directors’ Guild Gazi Rakayet and others spoke at the programme.
The speakers shed light on the long acting career of Ahmed. Chashi Nazrul Islam observed Ahmed as a natural and meticulous actor. ‘Bulbul Ahmed used to contemplate a lot about the character before enacting it. Besides, he was a determined actor who would not rest before giving his best performance,’ informed Islam, who also shared that Bulbul Ahmed resigned his bank job and even sold out his ancestral house for financing his filmmaking.
Bulbul Ahmed was also evaluated as a theater artiste at the programme. He began his acting career through theatre in 1957 when he acted in Rabindranath Tagore’s Shesh Rokkha for MC College in Sylhet. Later on, he joined the group Drama Circle and performed in plays such as Oedipus and ‘The Arms and the Man’. ‘He was a stunning actor regardless of whether he was acting in a film, teleplay or theatre,’ said Jhuna Chowdhury.
Ahmed was a spontaneous actor who would overcome any obstacles. ‘Ahmed had a difficulty in pronouncing a few alphabets; however, during acting, he overcame the difficulty with diligent practice,’ revealed Gazi Rakayet.
The discussants also observed that the success of Bulbul Ahmed as an actor was unprecedented as he was equally successful in several mediums including television, film and theatre. They also shared that Ahmed was also a skilled jatra and radio artiste. He had acted in more than 250 plays for Bangladesh Betar.
