Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, new mayor of the Rajshahi city, took his office on Wednesday with a vow to build a planned and model city. ‘I want to be a servant not the city father,’ he said in the charge taking programme held at Nagar Bhaban in the afternoon.
Shariful Islam Babu, mayor-in-charge of RCC, formally handed over the charge to Bulbul.
‘Creating jobs for the youth and driving drug menace out of his city will be one of my major tasks,’ said the new mayor.
‘It will be one of my biggest challenges to create jobs for the unemployed youths or help them find works.’
He sought cooperation of all, irrespective of their political affiliations and ideologies.
‘My door will remain open for all so that none can say the corporation did not listen to them,’ he said.
The 48-year-old, who was elected mayor for the first time through the June 15 election, said he would try to create jobs inside the city corporation and then elsewhere.
With RCC chief executive officer Ajahar Ali in the chair, acting mayor Shariful Islam Babu, former mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu and former acting mayor Rejaun Nabi Dudu also spoke on the occasion.
