Businessmen have set the prices of sugar, soya bean and palm oil for the month of Ramadan, fasting month for the Muslims, said sources in the commerce ministry.
At a meeting on Sunday the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the commerce ministry set the mill gate, wholesale and retail prices of sugar at Tk 41.50 a kilogram, Tk 42.50 a kg and Tk 45.50 a kg respectively.
In a news release the ministry said the price of unpacked soya bean oil was set at Tk 101 a litre at mill gate, Tk 102 a litre on wholesale market and Tk 105-Tk 108 a litre on retail market while the price of bottled soya bean will be Tk 127 a litre during Ramadan.
The news release said the price of bottled soya bean oil (five litres) would be decreased by Tk 25 from the existing price but it did not mention the actual price.
The ministry set the price of palm oil at mill gate at Tk 69 a litre, at wholesale at Tk 70 a litre and at retail at Tk 73-Tk 75 a litre.
At the meeting businessmen assured that the prices of essential commodities would not increased during Ramadan as the stock of the products were satisfactory.
Commerce secretary Mahbub Ahmed, FBCCI president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, TCB chairman Sarwar Jahan Talukder and representatives of several business groups were present in the meeting.
