The Chittagong City Corporation and the Chittagong district administration on Sunday began making public announcement asking people to move from their households at city
foothills which are vulnerably because of downpour.
Mohammad Shamshuddoha, secretary of the CCC, said they already had begun making announcement over loudspeakers urging people
to leave their dwellings at the foot of hills in the city as heavy raining could cause mudslide.
He also said they had published advertisements in newspapers urging owners of different hills to evacuate the dwellers living vulnerably.
The district administration sources said the people living vulnerably would be evicted, if necessary.
Meanwhile, the port city and different parts of the district experienced heavy rainfall which disrupted city life as well as business activities.
The rain continuing intermittently since Friday night caused severe inconvenience to the city dwellers.
Officials of the Chittagong Port Authority said the overall operational activities of the port remained uninterrupted but off-loading of bulk cargoes from vessels was disrupted partially owing to the downpour.
Fire service officials said this year they had not so far received any information of rain-related accidents including hill or mud collapse that caused human casualties in the port city and on its outskirts in rainy season every year.
Local Met Office sources said they recorded the highest 188 millimetres rainfall in last 24 hours beginning at 3:00pm Saturday.
The Met Office also predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in different parts of the country.
The heavy shower caused submersion at some residences and business establishments in low-lying areas including Bakalia, East Chaktai,
Asadganj, Muradpur, Bahadderhat, Agrabad and Halishahar areas in the city.
Water stagnation also caused traffic congestion in many parts of the city.
