The Chittagong City Corporation organised a get-together at the Engineers Institute Chittagong on Wednesday, marking the third anniversary of the incumbent executives.
People from all political parties and local elites attended the programme.
The BNP central committee vice-president, Abdullah Al Noman, said all potentials of Chittagong lied on the proper utilisation of the port.
The Chittagong port deserves a separate budget, he added.
The city mayor, M Monjur Alam, chaired the programme.
‘We may have different political or ideological stand but it should not affect the development of Chittagong,’ he said.
The mayor focused on the importance of unity amongst the politicians for having a livable Chittagong.
The city Awami League president, ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, and also the former mayor of Chittagong, declared to dedicate himself for the welfare of the port city.
He also supported the city government formula and said it would make the city more livable.
Mohiuddin urged the current mayor to accelerate the educative activities and cleanliness programmes.
Former state minister for forest Md Jafrul Islam, chairman of Kolyan Party Sayed Md Ibrahim, vice-chancellor of East-Delta University Professor Sikandar Khan, spoke, among other, in the function.
