The Chittagong City Corporation is excavating a hill after rumour spread that there was hidden treasure. Some unidentified men informed the CCC men that there was hidden treasure beneath the hill mud. The city corporation is building a banglow for the city mayor spending Tk 5 crore on the Tiger Pass hill and the construction works began six days ago.
Everything was going on in that direction but the construction workers stopped the works on Tuesday after some local people appeared there saying that if they went on with such random excavation, they would damage a much a treasure trove which lies 12 feet beneath the mud.
The rumour circulated like wildfire and CCC officials flocked to the area ensuring more security for the spot.
Workers started digging the soil in search of the hidden treasure which prompted them to remain out of work for two days.
CCC’s superintendent engineer Anwar Hossain, talking to New Age, confirmed the incident and said the mayor advised them to make sure no harm was done to the treasure-trove while working there.
Three local people came on the spot and said that there was some demarcation magnate pillar in the hill since the British rule. The present value of the magnate pillar was Tk 50 billion.
At least 70-80 workers are engaged in constructing the bangalow.
In the meantime, special security and surveillance has been ensured around the spot.
