22 projects to combat climate change risks
The Climate Change Trustee Board (CCTB), formed to combat risks due to climate change, approved 22 projects costing Tk 77 crore on Tuesday. “The donor countries have already deposited US $190 million to Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund (BCCRF) as grant and also committed to give further US $100 million,” Environment and Forest Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud told reporters after a meeting of the CCTB, held at the Secretariat.
Among others, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Relief and Disaster Management Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Food Minister Dr MA Razzaque, Chairman of PKSF Dr Kazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad and Environment and Forest Secretary Shafiqur Rahman Patwary attended the meeting.
Dr Hasan Mahmud, who chaired the meeting, said, a total of 160 projects costing Tk 1700 crore have already been approved to combat risks of climate change across the country.
The 22 approved projects include the construction of disaster tolerable houses for the tornado victims at Brahmanbaria, canal digging and tree plantation in drought prone areas, construction of rehabilitation of infrastructures at Dakope of Khulna district, rehabilitation of cyclone affected people of Satkhira and protection of river banks of Surma at Lamakazi, Sheikhpara, Kushighat, Dorsha, Jhalupara, Jangalia, Jogigaon, Fatehpur and Akilpur under Sadar upazila of Sylhet.
