The 19th Dhaka Wangala Festival is set to take place on October 24, 2025, at Banani Bidya Niketon. This event will be a vibrant celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the Garo (Mandi) community, says a Press release.
Wangala, often referred to as the harvest festival of the Garos, remains one of the community’s most significant traditional celebrations. Historically, the Garo people, whose livelihoods centred on agriculture and animist practices, dedicated the festival to Misi Saljong, the fertility god, to express gratitude for a successful harvest. Traditionally, crops were not consumed before honouring Misi Saljong with rituals, dancing, singing, and chu—an indigenous rice wine.
Over time, Wangala has evolved into a significant urban cultural event, uniting Garo community members and welcoming well-wishers from diverse backgrounds. The festival now features ritual performances, cultural shows, and hosts community discussions that centre on gratitude, cultural preservation, and unity.
“Dhaka Wangala has become more than a harvest celebration—it is a bridge between generations, preserving our identity and honouring the traditions of our ancestors in an ever-changing world,” the organisers said.
This year’s event aims to foster intercultural understanding and community togetherness, offering attendees a glimpse into the vibrant heritage and resilient spirit of the Garo people.
