A three-day celebration of 150 years of the Chittagong city ended on Sunday. Politicians, CCC employees, councillors and other professionals were present at the concluding day’s seminar where BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman said the coming national election
must be held under caretaker government. There would no compromise on the non-party caretaker government issue, he said and called for establishing ‘city government’ concept for the proper development of the port city.
President of Chittagong South district BNP and member of parliament Jafrul Islsm Chowdhury, former lawmaker of BNP Dyed Wahidul Alam were special guests at the programme presided by CCC mayor M Monzur Alam.
Abdullah Al Noman said they declared Chittagong as a commercial city in 2003. A bill was then passed by the cabinet including 17 points. But the current government did not implement commercial city concept.
He said the government collects cent per cent of revenue from port city but gives a poor amount of allocation for the city.
He suggested the implementation of city government concept so that CCC can execute their development works from its own recourses and take any decision independently.
The city mayor, M Monzur Alam, said he established transparency in the city corporation.
