Chaity won the crown of the Lux Channel I Super Star 2008 yesterday. Tajzi became first runner-up, while Deepa stood the second runner-up position.
This was announced at the grand finale of beauty pageant and talent hunt contest ‘Lux-Channel i Super Star,’ at Bangladesh-China Friendship Convention Centre in the city yesterday night.
The winner was selected through viewers’ SMS and on the basis of marks given by a three-member jury comprising Sarah Begum Kabori, Afsana Mimi and Imdadul Haque Milon. Therefore, Aly Zaker and Shykh Siraj were also present as special judges at the gala finale.
Naushad Chowdhury, Brands and Development Director of Unilever Bangladesh Ltd, Rakesh Roshan, Faridur Reza Sagor, Managing Director of Channel I, were also present during the announcement.
Chaity, 19, is doing her BBA under National University. Her interests include reading books on history and listing to music. She is an aspiring actress and model.
The event was inaugurated with the song rendered by Mila and composed by Fuad. Then Bappa Mazumder, Shafin Ahmed, Sumon and Anila also rendered other songs in the gala event.
The event was aired on live from 7:30pm on Channel i.
Dignity, beauty and smile are the speciality of the 10 finalists – Arabi Rahman, Israt Jahan Chaity, Rebeka Sultana Deepa, Roksana Akter Hera, Fowzia Lisani, Nusrat Jahan Orin, Shampa Rani Das, Syeda Umme Tajzi, Ayesha Taskin and Farhan Ferdous Tonima.
About 5000 aspirants from across the country participated at the event that had begun on August 18, 2008. The organisers short-listed the contestants through a series of contests.
This is the fourth instalment of the show. The first ‘Lux-Channel i Super Star’ was held in 2005. Since then the contest has been held every year. Launched in August 2008, this instalment of the show saw a huge response as thousands registered from all over the country, chasing the dream of becoming a star. Only ten have made it to the finals. This year’s winner will be awarded major roles in a TV serial and a film. Here’s a quick look at the ten contestants who have made it to the top.
